#13 Coconino Panthers (2-1), (5-3) at #7 Prescott Badgers (3-0), (7-1), 7 pm
After their 27-17 win at Bradshaw Mountain last week, the Prescott Badgers have a good chance to win nine regular season games for the first time in Coach Cody Collett’s tenure at Prescott High School. In order to do that, they will have to get past the Coconino Panthers tonight on Bill Shepard Field, and their regular season finale at Mingus a week away. Last year the Badgers fell to Coconino 42-37 in a wild game at Flagstaff.
The Panthers have won three in a row after a 49-12 win over Mingus last week.
Coconino runs a very similar style offense as Bradshaw Mountain. What gives them an edge is they have the ability to throw the ball if need be. Colton Buckingham has completed 61% of his passes for 1491 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. Being able to slow down the running attack will be a key, but the Prescott secondary will need to be ready when the ball comes flying through the air.
The Badgers have won six straight and continue to have great success with quarterback Uriah Tenette, who has combined for 1992 yards of offense with 1463 passing yards, with 14 TDs, 3 Interceptions, and 529 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns. Defensively, Uriah has five interceptions, three returned for touchdowns. Tenette this past week committed to play basketball at UC San Diego.
Adam Lloyd leads the rushing attack with 597 yards. Johann Gundermann has seven touchdown receptions and still leads the 4A Division in punting. Sophomore linebacker Brody Hanna needs just 14 tackles to reach 100 on the season.
Be sure to bundle up for this chiller thriller as this has the makings of another close contest on a cold night in Prescott.
#12 Bradshaw Mountain (2-1), (5-3) at #18 Flagstaff Eagles (2-1), (6-2), NAU Skydome , 7 pm
Here is a potentially scary matchup on Halloween night between the Bears and the Eagles. This is a key matchup in determining a potential playoff spot. Flagstaff needs this one badly because at the moment they are the outside looking in. Last year, the Bears beat the Eagles 49-32 in Prescott Valley.
Both teams like to run the ball but Flagstaff has a three year starter at quarterback who can get the ball out and accurately. The key will be if Chase Brown, 1326 yards passing, will get the time to do that. Jadon Wetzel leads all Grand Canyon Region rushers with 1189 yards by handling the bulk of the carries in the backfield.
The Eagles needed overtime to beat Lee Williams 34-28 in Kingman last week and are on the bubble of making the playoffs.
The Bears lost by ten to Prescott last week, snapping a five game win streak. If Bradshaw can get a consistent running game going it will be a long night for Flagstaff. Kylin Jackson is third in the Grand Canyon Region in rushing with 655 yards. Kaleb Dekens has 537 yards.
Look for Bradshaw Mountain to bounce back in the cozy confines of the dome at Northern Arizona University.
