PRESCOTT WEATHER

Golf and Wellness: Combining Play with Relaxation in Prescott’s Golf Courses

Let’s be honest. Prescott’s 4-season weather gives us a unique edge—whatever you’re into, we’ve probably got it. Snow, rain, shine, there’s something amazing to do here. And as long as there’s no snow on the ground, playing golf is one of those amazing things.

But we’re not just here for the absolute golfing enthusiasts. We’re blessed with gorgeous golf courses that offer a variety of other activities, taking them from simple golf clubs to places you can go to relax, find peace, and get away from the world for a while.

Here are some perfect places to combine golf and wellness in Prescott. Try one, try them all—you might just find your favorite new relaxation spot.

Talking Rock

The first thing to note is that Talking Rock is a private club, so if you want to play here, you’ll need to find a member to go along with. If you can, it’s absolutely worth it—how often do you find a desert golf course that’s walker-friendly?

You can experience the full beauty of this golf course as you walk from hole one to 18. And with the lovely Prescott weather, it’s a highly enjoyable experience. Unlike many other Jay Morrish courses, Talking Rock is quite beginner-friendly—it features wide, straightforward fairways and bunkers that tend to stay out of your way if you’re fairly accurate.

The front nine is lined with homes, so you may not feel that typical “away from the city” feeling until you get to the back nine. In typical desert golf style, it’s fairly flat, presenting a fun play for advanced golfers and a nice challenge for newbies.

There’s also a relaxed little chip-n-putt area—a casual, 9-hole course that’s laid out over 3 acres. It’s located within a specific area of the course that also includes a barbecue space and restrooms, ideal for relaxing with friends or family.

StoneRidge Golf Club

Stoneridge is open to the public, so you can head over here any time for a round. It’s a sort of dual desert and mountain course, a bit more up and down than the one above. You’ll enjoy lovely views across the Prescott Valley, and it might be a little more enjoyable for experienced golfers than Talking Rock.

The layout is vibrant and interesting, with things like elevated tees and greens, rolling hills, and exciting carries. There are a couple of doglegs and fairways with impaired visibility, but it only makes the gameplay more exciting.

You’ll get the chance to use every club in your bag on this course, thanks to the elevation changes. There’s also an amazing practice area with 2 practice greens, a chipping green, and a practice sand trap, so you can warm up well before hitting these slopes.

When it comes to relaxation off the actual course, the onsite Prescott Club is for the foodies. The monthly Wine Down Wednesday is a firm favorite; how much more relaxed can you get than wine and cheese tasting? Friday nights come with live music, although this might be more of a dance party than a chilled evening.

The Club At Prescott Lakes

The Club is like the central hub of Prescott Lakes neighborhoods, a welcoming place where golfers and non-golfers can come together and relax. Note that you have to be a member (or join a member) to enjoy the facilities here.

It’s worth a visit, though. Golfers are treated to stunning views from almost every hole, and a tricky layout that’s anything but boring. Each hole is uniquely named; Horned Toad, Morning Star, Bear Paw, and Long Man being some of the interesting titles bestowed upon them.

One of the unique aspects of this course is the rock art that begins each hole. It’s an exciting experience, playing through this course—most tee boxes are elevated, so choose your golf clubs carefully, and be careful of the wind… It can throw you off course pretty easily!

As for relaxation, if you’re a member, you can enjoy things like the Athletic Club, complete with indoor and outdoor pools. The onsite restaurant holds events throughout the year for the community, and there’s a ton of fun things to do if you’re looking for socialization—mah jongg, bridge, cribbage, line dancing, ping pong, gardening, book club, and a whole lot more.

Capital Canyon Club

If you’re up for a challenge… Capital Canyon recorded a huge 25 holes-in-one in a single year, so this could be your best chance ever at grabbing that elusive one-shotter! With five tee positions, there’s a fair chance for every golfer to score well here.

The course is set in the middle of a forest landscape, so you’re surrounded by gorgeous Ponderosa pine trees. Thankfully, the fairways are relatively wide on most holes, giving you just the right amount of challenge vs relaxation as you breathe in the mountain air and loosen up those shoulders.

Aside from the golf, you can get your chill on in the impressive clubhouse restaurant, a high-ceilinged, stone-walled beauty with a welcoming lodge-like feeling. Or, grab a drink at the Club Room as you wind down after a round (or before!)

The club offers special weekly features for members, like themed evenings, speciality dining, and unique holiday celebrations. Cookouts, live music events, monthly mixology classes… There’s plenty of relaxation right here!

Conclusion

Golf is as relaxing a sport as they come. There’s something special about being out in nature, breathing in fresh air, and enjoying the sun on your skin. These courses offer a little more than just golf, though, so even non-golfers can spend some time relaxing in these settings.

And if you’re really in the mood for a full-on relaxation day, don’t forget there are numerous other places near each of these courses that offer their own rejuvenating activities. Do your research and make a day of it… Because we all ended a bit of relaxation every now and then.

  1. Can’t believe that you ignored Antelope Hills Golf Course. They are the most reasonable courses (there are two 18 hole courses) in town, and have made numerous improvements on the overall playing areas. And, the restaurant has really improved their food, which is also very reasonably priced with terrific wait staff. Without this course, many people would not be able to play golf on a regular basis.

  2. Antelope Hills raised their prices and DID NOT MAKE ANY IMPROVEMENTS! So my wife and I stopped playing. We used to pay 36.00 for the two of us for 18 holes twilight walking. They raised the price to 48.00. Their is no Marshall, the tee boxes are concrete, the greens as dry as your humor.
This is a municipal course and should be priced accordingly. Quailwoods raised their price from 32.75 to 60.00 for the same.
    Be serious.
