The Mile Hi Classic was held at Watson Lake Park with a competitive group looking to claim the tournament championship. The Tournament, hosted by the Mile Hi Horseshoe Club brought pitchers from Phoenix and Surprise to participate in the event, but it was Prescott’s own Cody Williams who battled his way to take home the top spot.
Very pleasant conditions with some cloud coverage made for a very nice day to pitch, with temperatures staying in the low to mid 70s throughout the three hours of play.
When the final shoes were tossed, Cody Williams, the favorite, stayed true to form in picking up the championship, in order to do so, he needed to beat Robert Chubinsky. Their final game of the day was a battle, one that Williams needed in order to win it all after having a hiccup two games earlier with a tie with Emmitt Jones. Williams won going (5-0-1) on the day. Chubinsky was pitching well and was unblemished till the final game. Chubinsky took second place going (5-1).
The third place finish was somewhat of a surprise for Keith Tucker, who finished (4-2), finishing strong after his bye and overcome owing handicaps with wins over Brian Belcher and Terry Sloan.
Next up will be the back to back tournaments as Prescott Valley will host on Saturday, September 14 and Prescott will host Sunday, September 15. Start time is slated for 9 am.
