Every September since 2012, a group of dedicated volunteers has created a touching field of flags at the Prescott Valley Civic Center. It began as a simple way to visualize the enormity of human loss that occurred in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As hundreds of volunteers gathered to help, it soon became evident that something much more was emerging. It became a tangible expression of mourning, honor, and a very real healing experience.
The Prescott Valley Healing Field has 2,977 American flags for those that died on 9/11 plus 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot Flags representing the firefighters who perished on June 30, 2013.
Join us for the field setup on Friday, September 6 at 7am. Following the setup, stick around for the Blessing of the Field at 9:30am; followed by the 9/11 Ceremony on Wednesday, September 11 at 6pm, which will also be live-streamed and available on the Town’s YouTube Channel.
