Friday Night Lights Kicks Off Locally Tonight

Photo: Players and fans alike will welcome back high school football from this beautiful setting tonight at Prescott High School

La Joya Community Fighting Lobos (0-0) at Prescott Badgers (0-0), 7 pm

The Badgers are ready to go and senior signal caller Uriah Tenette is sure to brighten the lights on Bill Shepard Field tonight. Look for some highlights on both sides of the ball in this opener for both squads.

La Joya Community had a rough start to the season in 2023, dropping their first six, but finished strong to end at (3-7). The Fighting Lobos will be in 4A for the second straight year after playing in the 6A Division in 2020, and 5A Division in 2021.

Maxpreps has a preseason ranking of Prescott at #18 and La Joya Community at #41 in the 4A Division.

Last season the Badgers shutout the Lobos 39-0 in Avondale. Prescott had 441 yards of total offense and held La Joya Community to just 36 yards.

Bradshaw Mountain Bears (0-0) at Snowflake Lobos (0-0), 7 pm

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears should have their hands full tonight as they travel across the state to face a storied program in Snowflake. The Lobos were bumped up to Division 4A three years ago and have made some noise. It was an unusual quick exit in the first round of the playoffs last season after dropping the championship the year before to a highly talented school in ALA-Gilbert North.

This should once again be a good old fashion grind it out contest, and just a tough first game for both schools. Both teams will also have new quarterbacks running the offenses.

The Bears will need to get some support for running back Brayden Munday and minimize mistakes to beat what is a fundamentally sound football program.

A year ago the Bears beat Snowflake 24-14 in Prescott Valley. Maxpreps preseason poll has Snowflake ranked #11 and Bradshaw Mountain at #14.

Kingman Academy Tigers (0-1) at Chino Valley Cougars (0-1), 7pm

The Cougars were victims of a six touchdown pass performance by quarterback Joseph Benally in a 47-20 loss at Page. Chino Valley did manage to keep the game close into the third quarter before the Sand Devils pulled away.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were shutout on the road at Mountainside 12-0. Chino Valley can score and will need to shore up their pass defense. The plus for the Cougars tonight will be the home field advantage.

Last year Kingman Academy beat Chino Valley 18-6.
