Suze’s Prescott Center for the Arts to Close its Doors – The Board

It is with both a heavy heart and deep gratitude that we write to inform you of an important and emotional decision that has been made regarding SPCA. We have recently faced an unexpected setback when we could not reach an equitable agreement with a potential investor just days before a critical deadline.

After over 50 years of bringing stories to life, building connections, and creating countless memories, barring an 11th-hour financial miracle, our beloved theatre will be closing its doors for the final time.

This decision was not made lightly. Despite our efforts to keep the curtain rising, the challenges we’ve faced recently have proven insurmountable. However, instead of simply fading into the dark, we want to honor the legacy of this special place in a way that only the theatre can—with one last series of unforgettable performances.

Along with our upcoming series of events in the Studio Theatre (Threads, Art Walk: featuring Everly Koiter, The Hot Beignets, AZ Dueling Pianos, and Movie Night: Dinner In America) we invite you to join us for our final show run in the Cabaret Theatre of Jersey Boys from September 12 to September 29th. During this run we will celebrate the history, the people, and the magic that made SPCA so much more than just a building; as we come together one last time, to honor the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve forged, and the community we’ve built.

We hope to see the faces of those who have supported us over the years, whether you’ve been with us since our first production or recently discovered the joy of live theatre. These evenings will be for all of us—a tribute to every actor, crew member, volunteer, and audience member who has ever walked through our doors.

To our patrons —SPCA has only ever existed for you and because of you. Your attendance, donations, and involvement have made this theatre community what it is.

To our volunteers —words cannot express our gratitude for your dedication, time, and passion. You have been the backbone of this theatre, working tirelessly behind the scenes to make every show possible.

In the spirit of transparency and community, we have also scheduled a special session where everyone can have a public conversation with the board to ask direct questions and receive honest, transparent answers. We want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to ask about the decisions and events that led us here. This will take place in the Cabaret on Sunday, August 25th at 5:00 pm.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Though it seems the curtain is closing on this chapter, the art and memories we’ve created together will live on forever.

So sorry to hear that the theater will close its doors. It served me with a purpose and true friends during a most trying time in my life. I loved the shows I was involved in and was truly entertained by the shows I went to watch. It was a home for me for a while. So sad to see it go. I’m not interested in the details as to “why”, just sad to say good-by

  2. As someone from England who appreciates this venue when I have paid a visit to my comrade who like me is a veteran aviator, I am shocked that within the population of the local area which has expanded hugely over the last few years that there is no benevalent supporter of the arts to fund and prevent this closure.

  3. I was not able to make the meeting but was shocked to see the property for sale today. The asking price is 4.5 million and it appears the individual is made the loan foreclosed on a 2.2-million-dollar loan. The situation is appalling, and I have no idea how the Board ended up in this scenario.
