On July 6, 2024, officers from the Prescott Police Department, Prescott Valley Police Department, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety participated in an impaired driver saturation patrol as part of the Tri-City DUI Task Force. In total, officers made 145 traffic stops which resulted in the arrest of 4 suspects for various DUI offenses.

Additionally, on July 7, at approximately 1:20 A.M. a Prescott Police Traffic Officer assigned to the task force attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Gurley Street and Marina Street. The vehicle initially refused to stop and travelled to the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Goodwin Street before eventually stopping. As officers contacted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, she began revving her engine. As officers attempted to get the driver out of the vehicle, she accelerated from the stop endangering the two officers. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver in the area of south Pleasant Street and safely take her into custody.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Dewey resident, Sophia Myers. Myers was processed for impaired driving which revealed an alcohol concentration of .265, more than 3 times the legal limit. Myers was later booked into the Yavapai County Jail on several DUI charges and numerous felony charges including Aggravated Assault, Endangerment, Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Impersonation.
