It’s an election year, which means it’s time for politicians to lie to us about the border.
You’ve heard it on TV, you’ve listened to it on the radio and soon it’ll be in your junk mail: our politicians are going to SECURE THE BORDER. Of course, we all know that’s not true. We know this because whichever party runs Washington, the border remains as it is: very much not secure.
Most often, Republicans talk about securing the border. By and large, they’re lying. When Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan controlled Congress, they certainly didn’t come close to securing the border. While I appreciate the sentiment, it’s hard to take it seriously.
It’s not just Republicans who lie about securing the border. The Democrats have discovered the border now. They’re very concerned about the border. They will secure the border any day now; just wait and see. But you might remember that Democrats had control for the first two years of Biden’s term. Did they secure the border?
Any casual TV news consumer knows what’s going on. Politicians want to run on securing the border — it’s a winning issue. The multinational corporations that back them have no interest in a secure border. They want American workers like me (I’m a steamfitter) replaced with illegal immigrants with zero rights so they can push them around and pay them pennies.
So, if you’re a U.S. senator, the best way forward is to lie. Promise voters you’ll secure the border, keep cashing corporate PAC checks, use those PAC checks to win your election, do nothing on the border, rinse, repeat. Your donors get their cheap labor, you get re-elected, and nobody pays enough attention for it to matter.
At the end of the day, donkeys or elephants, it is what it is. Whatever party is in power has no incentive to solve the border crisis and every incentive to yap about it. It’s an election strategy that fools no one. Most Americans know they’re being lied to, but what choice do we have?
As for myself, all I’ll say is I’m an independent. I don’t belong to a political party, and I don’t take corporate PAC checks. I’ve spent my entire adult life working 50, 60, 70 hours a week to feed my family. So, this system of illegal immigration drives down wages and only serves the multinationals and the cartels? I take it personally. And I’m not on board.
The Border Patrol is overwhelmed. We’re sending our people to the border and hanging them out to dry without the resources or the numbers they need. We need more agents. We need a wall. Maintaining a secure border isn’t rocket science. It’s not that our leaders don’t know how. It’s that they don’t want to.
Maybe if we elected more people who served American workers instead of their donors and their parties, we’d get results on the border instead of empty promises, year after year after year.

This is BS. My 10 person company used E-verify since it was put in. Show some corporation that just ignores citizenship. Yes, some one truck landscaper or a builder that hires subs so they don’t have to take them in as employees. Fear mongering at best.
