Esports gaming is now offered at the James Family Prescott YMCA thanks to generous support from OneAZ Credit Union and the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe. The Y’s innovative new gaming room features advanced technology, 10 gaming consoles, three large wall mounted monitors, and a variety of age-appropriate games. The room is open to youth between 13 and 17 years of age.

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to partner with OneAZ Credit Union and the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe to bring Esports gaming to our growing family of sports programs at the Y,” said Damon Olsen, Chief Executive Officer for the YMCA of Yavapai County. “We’ve opened the Esports program to youth between 13 and 17 years of age for casual play, and our vision is to grow the program by adding competitive levels and the potential for tournament play in the future.”

In this program, youth are welcome to be who they are, excel at what they love, and develop social, strategic, and problem-solving skills necessary to grow into thriving adults in a safe, moderated, and inclusive environment. As with other sports programs at the Y, Esports reinforces the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, ensuring the participants receive a well- rounded and enriching experience.

“We offer a variety of games for our members and guests to enjoy, including Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Cart, Minecraft, Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Just Dance 4, and Nintendo Switch Sports,” said Danielle Taintor, Youth Development Coordinator, James Family Prescott YMCA. “The room is open for use Monday through Friday, between 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM and no reservations are required at this time.”

Since 1914, the James Family Prescott YMCA has strengthened the community through programs that emphasize youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y relies on membership and program fees, along with public and private contributions to operate programs and fund expansion projects. As a membership organization, the Y is open to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. An extensive scholarship program ensures access to kids and families who could not otherwise benefit from YMCA programs.
