House Fire Causes Death of Elderly Woman
Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and several Fire agencies were on scene of a house fire in Wilhoit on Saturday. A 79-year-old woman called 911 to report her house was on fire, and that it was just she and her dog inside the residence. When YCSO arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed. Fire personnel were not initially able to contain the fire and it jumped the road and continued to spread. The home burned to the ground, but the fire was contained, however a search of the home found an unidentified body in the rubble, presumed to be the homeowner.
YCSO and Fire Investigators processed the scene the following day and evidence at the scene seemed to indicate the fire originated from a shed at the side of the residence, spread to vegetation, and then to the home. It appeared the shed had many butane, paint and other containers consistent with flammable materials and fuels. Interviews with neighbors indicated the victim was almost 80 years old, lived alone, and appeared to have no family. She was known to have mobility difficulties. The 911 recordings indicate she was alone with her dog, and statements she made are consistent with the fire having started and then spread to the house. Efforts are still underway to make a definitive identification of the remains, and to determine a next of kin, which is proving to be quite difficult so far. Known information at this time indicates no foul play, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Drug, Vehicle Theft and Weapons Charges After Routine Traffic Stop in Prescott Valley
On Friday evening a YCSO Deputy made a traffic stop on a truck with malfunctioning rear lights near Glassford Hill and Center Court in Prescott Valley. The driver, 28-year-old Joseph Boyle, was asked if he had any weapons or drugs in the vehicle and advised he did not. While the deputy was filling out the warning for the break light, another deputy arrived with K-9 Skye who, after walking around the truck, “alerted” on the vehicle indicating possible narcotics on board. Boyle was detained and a search of the vehicle was conducted, where 2 grams of methamphetamine were located. A pistol along with a few dismantled weapons were also found.
A Vespa scooter was also located in the back of the truck, and a VIN search determined the vehicle was stolen out of Phoenix. Boyle was booked on multiple charges for Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Paraphernalia, Inaccurately Answering Concealed Carry Question, Unlawful Use of Means of Transportation and Involving a Weapon in the Commission of a Felony.
One Investigation Unearths Another
On Saturday afternoon, Deputies responded to a call of someone threatening another on Squaw Valley Road in Black Canyon City. The dispute was between a father and a son, Dusty Nash (24) calling to say his father, Kenneth Nash (49) had been “threatening” him, with Dusty arming himself with firearms prior to the deputies’ arrival.
During the investigation however, deputies were led into another investigation of an assault, where Dusty’s girlfriend claimed that the day prior, Dusty had come home from his job angry, handcuffed her to a dog kennel in the 5th wheel and assaulted her. Evidence at the scene alluded to an assault on the girlfriend consistent with her claims, and Dusty was arrested and booked on numerous felony charges. The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.

1 thought on “Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Weekend Roundup”
There is an election for Yavapai County Sheriff this year. I have heard from two people that there are many problems in the current sheriffs departments. Staffing is at a low level in several areas and morale is low and related to Sheriff Rhodes management style. It would serve all Yavapai County residents to look into this and make an educated decision before voting.
