Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) welcomes customers for its 27th summer season on Saturday, April 6. The market will be open from 7:30am to noon at 900 Iron Springs Road at the Dignity Health-YRMC overflow parking lot.
Prescott Farmers Market operates a year-round, producer-only farmers market, meaning every item sold is either grown or produced by the seller featuring Arizona-grown ingredients. The majority of products come from farmers, ranchers and food makers in Yavapai County. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, honey, grass-fed beef, pork, chicken and eggs, small food businesses sell ready-to-eat foods like sourdough and rye bread, bagels, baked goods, quiche, tamales, street tacos, burgers, samosas, shawarma and aebleskivers. Customers can also find an assortment of soaps, lotions and other body care products. Last but not least, during the month of May, farmers have plant starts for sale including herbs, tomatoes, peppers, squash and eggplant varieties that grow well in Yavapai County’s climate.
Customers can swipe their debit, credit or SNAP/EBT cards to receive tokens at the Information Booth. The Double Up Food Bucks Arizona program allows customers to DOUBLE their SNAP benefits at the market for fresh fruits and vegetables and garden starts. All vendors accept cash. Participants of the WIC and CSFP programs are eligible to receive Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons for immediate use at PFM.
Kaolin Randall, PFM’s Director of Community Outreach, shared: “I’m always smiling when I’m at the market. Even if my ‘plan’ is to just pop in for my favorite salad mix from Schaffer Farms, I inevitably get caught up in a light-hearted conversation with a vendor or a fellow customer. I always feel connected to my community in a way that can only happen through spontaneous interactions at the market.”
PFM hosts FREE special events on a regular basis including a Cookbook Exchange on April 13, a Seed Exchange and seed planting event on May 4, the Mother’s Day photo booth on May 11 and Chef in Action once per month. All PFM events, including a vendor roster for each market day (subject to change), are listed on the event calendar on the website. PFM also serves as the drop site for the Prescott Community Compost Program, where citizens can deposit fruit and vegetable kitchen scraps to be composted.
Pets are not allowed at the market. ADA service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.
As a vital part of the economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food.
