White Spar Trailhead Construction to Begin March 1 – Prescott National Forest

The Prescott National Forest, Bradshaw Ranger District has partnered with the City of Prescott to construct the new White Spar Trailhead funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act.   The City of Prescott has contracted with FANN Contracting to begin construction activities on March 1.  Completion is expected sometime in the beginning of May depending on weather.

Trail users should expect closure of the existing trailhead beginning the week of March 4 and continuing into April to allow for the safe and efficient mobilization of equipment and construction materials. The above map shows the construction area and alternative routes for those trail users traveling on the Prescott Circle Trail to avoid the construction area.  Additionally, there will be no access to Highway 89 on motorized trails 64 and 382. It is critical that trail users refrain from parking in the campground or along Highway 89 for their safety and that of motorists.  The City of Prescott Goldwater Lake facilities and the Forest’s Watershed Trailhead along Senator highway provide alternative parking for access to the area trails.

The completed trailhead will provide parking for 25 vehicles and approximately five truck and trailers for equestrian parking.  There will be a three-panel kiosk, two-stall vault toilet, two picnic tables and accessible parking and access paths.  The associated Bean Peaks Trailhead is expected to be constructed during the same timeframe and may provide up to 20 additional parking spots and an additional one-stall vault toilet.  These improved recreation facilities are a direct result of the collaborative Greater Prescott Trails Planning process that was started in 2013 that has resulted in authorization of approximately 150 miles of new motorized and non-motorized trails and 15 new trailheads.  The Forest and its many partners have constructed approximately 70 miles of the new trails and seven new trailheads in the last 10 years.

The White Spar Trailhead is located approximately three miles south of the Prescott Courthouse Square on the East side of Highway 89.
