In celebration of the rare occurrence of Leap Day, Sharlot Hall Museum is thrilled to announce a day of free admission for all visitors on February 29th from 10 am to 4 pm.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows everyone to explore the museum’s rich exhibits, historical buildings, and the beautiful museum grounds at no cost.
Step Back in Time – No Charge!
Leap Day at Sharlot Hall Museum offers a unique gateway into the past, allowing visitors to take a leap back into history. Venture through time as you wander around the meticulously preserved governor’s mansion, explore the transportation building, or peruse artifacts that tell the stories of Arizona’s vibrant history.
Leap Day – an event which rolls around only once every four years – grants us the gift of an extra day. This day has a history that harkens back to the time of the ancient Romans. Instituted by Julius Caesar in 45 BCE, the addition of an extra day every four years was the solution to a problem posed by the solar system itself. The Earth does not orbit the sun in precisely 365 days; it takes about 365.24 days.
Without the insertion of a leap day over a period of time, the calendar year would gradually drift from the solar year and the seasons would fall out of sync. So take advantage of this extra time and immerse yourself in the archives of history and culture at Sharlot Hall Museum.
While no special activities are planned, the day still promises a full schedule as usual for exploration and discovery. The museum's extensive collection awaits, from Native American artifacts and frontier-era exhibits that echo with the whispers of the past.
