Local restaurant Essence Kitchen & Bar will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in mid-February 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on February 14th. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with husband-and-wife owners Jason Krupp and Julia Ammons about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Krupp and Ammons both have a long history in the hospitality industry, and opened Essence Kitchen & Bar in 2018. Their goal is to better the community and people’s lives with the restaurant. They offer programs and dinners for veterans – serving 120 every other month – and also utilize local Chino Valley High School culinary students in the kitchen.
“We treat our restaurant more as a culinary arts and hospitality and service school,” Julia says. “One of the biggest things we like our guests to know is that it’s much more than a dinner. It’s much more than a dining experience. You’re allowing a trade; you’re a part of our journey making our community a better place,”
The modern American menu which emphasizes local ingredients features salads, small plates, pasta, burgers and sandwiches, and entrees of steak, chicken, and sustainable seafood. They have won the Daily Courier Readers’ Choice Awards for the last three years for Best Restaurant and Best Bar.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Wednesday February 14th from 9 am to noon MST. The press is invited to attend. The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on their Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website at https://

Not being a person who seeks out “special” restaurants, I doubt I would drive up to Chino Valley for what appears to be a fine run establishment with very good food and service.
However, after living here 20 years I am often faced with addresses on Sr 69 and Sr 89 that offer no actual “easy” spot to find as I am driving 45 mph in traffic. A reference to a cross street or a significant business or building would make locating this fine establishment much easier.
It’s right after road 2 North on the right side of highway 89 on the right end of the Safeway building. Very easy to find.
