Photo: Uriah Tenette scored 38 points to lead the Badgers
The highly anticipated battle for first place between the Prescott Badgers and the Flagstaff Eagles became a Badgers highlight reel in a 43 point blowout over the hapless Eagles in Flagstaff.
Uriah Tenette scored 26 of his 38 points in the first half as the Badgers broke open a low scoring game in the second quarter.
Prescott led 8-7 when Flagstaff’s leading scorer and rebounder Jake Centner picked up back to back fouls and had to leave the game. The Badgers closed out the first quarter on a 7-2 run to lead by six.
Josiah Peoples and Coley Fundalewicz found themselves making steals and getting the ball up court quickly for Tenette and Gaul. The lead grew and grew as the Eagles had no answers. The Badgers led by as much as 20 in the first half before settling for a 19 point halftime lead of 41-22.
Josiah Peoples had a big third quarter with three baskets and finishing the game with nine points. Zane Gaul scored 12 and had seven rebounds through three quarters. Tenette also had six rebounds and three assists.
The Badgers continued to totally dominate Flagstaff and opened up a 69-32 at the end of the third quarter. The starters soon departed giving the benches some extended playing time.
Prescott now sits on top of the Grand Canyon Region at (10-0) and an overall mark of (20-3). Flagstaff falls to (7-1) and (12-12). The two teams will face each other again in Prescott on February 8 in the regular season finale. The Badgers sit at #6 in the AIA Division 4 poll, and will host Mingus tonight at 7 pm.
