First Significant Winter Storm System to Hit Area late Saturday Night

As the first significant winter storm system approaches the area, Street Maintenance crews are preparing personnel and equipment to respond to the storm.

Based on current forecasts, we are expecting as much as three inches of snow fall. Low temperatures are now forecast to be in the upper 20’s rather than the mid to lower teens, as previously forecast, which is good as far as our crews response efforts are concerned.

That said it is always the best practice to be as prepared as possible. Have at least three days’ worth of water, food and medications on hand. Be sure to have all electronic devices fully charged, as well as an alternate source of heat available if possible. If you must travel, please do so with extra caution, and leave plenty of extra time to arrive safely to your destination.

Always leave extra braking distance between you and the vehicles ahead of you and when approaching intersections. When approaching a snow plow that is actively plowing, try to stay at least 100 feet behind it and do not pass it, particularly on the right side of the plow. This will help keep you and our operators safe.

We will update twice daily at around 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with plowing progress and weather updates. Updates will also be available on the City website and City Facebook and Instagram accounts.

As always we would like to thank you for your continued cooperation during this and all winter storm events, and please drive safely.
