Badgers Basketball Teams Drop Pair on The Road

Varsity Boys Basketball

The Prescott Badgers suffered their second loss of the season with a 21 point setback to the Deer Valley Skyhawks 65-44, in Phoenix.

The Badgers playing without big man Zane Gaul did a good job in the first half, trailing by only two, 28-26 at the break. The second half the Skyhawks added to their lead in the third as the Badgers offense struggled to score.

Trailing 41-34 after three quarters, the game was still very much in reach, but Deer Valley exploded in the final eight minutes to win going away.

Uriah Tenette scored a game high 28 points to go along with seven rebounds. Cooper Magnett returned from an injury with a solid performance, scoring ten points. The two juniors combined for 38 of the 44 points. The Badgers were held to 26 points below their season average, thanks in part to a tough defensive performance by the Skyhawks.

Deer Valley remains unbeaten and ranked on top of the 4A conference with an (8-0) record. The Skyhawks will play at Bradshaw Mountain (7-2) tonight at 7pm. Prescott (6-2) will host Tempe tonight before playing in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic beginning December 27.

Varsity Girls Basketball

Bella Abt returned giving the Lady Badgers a huge game, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions in a 61-57 setback.

Abt scored 22 points and controlled the boards with 19 rebounds, while also nabbing eight steals.

It was a grinding first half with Mountain Ridge on top 19-17 at the half. Something energized the two teams as they combined for a 50 point third quarter with Prescott on top 45-41.

The Mountain Lions were able to get some key stops and took the lead in the final minutes. Unfortunately, the Lady Badgers made only 50% from the charity stripe.

Prescott falls to (5-4) and will host Flagstaff before enjoying a short break before they host the Lady Badger Winter Classic on December 29-30.
