The Marauders went up 6-0 late in the first quarter when Michael Grijalva carried the ball off the right side for a 15 yard touchdown with 1:36 left in the first quarter.

Prescott responded quickly with a 74 yard pass from quarterback Jaxon Rice to Johann Gundermann. The extra point was blocked as the game was tied at six.

Mingus came right back, scoring on a fourth down play when Reighns Stokes threw a 14 yard pass to Mario Camacho in the far corner in the end zone. The two point conversion failed, leaving Mingus on top 12-6.

The Badger defense stood tall holding the Marauders on fourth down at the Prescott 37. Lightning struck for a second time on the first play when Rice aired it out on the far side to Gundermann for a 63 yard scoring strike for their second connection of the night. Jed Rummage added the PAT for a 13-12 lead.

Mingus threatened as they got down to the Prescott 31, but a fumble recovered by Wyatt Rewerts gave the Badgers the ball back with less than a minute to play in the half. Lightning struck for a third time when Rice hit Gundermann in stride for a 69 yard touchdown. The extra point gave the Badgers a 20-12 lead at the half.

Rice hit Josiah Peoples on a curl route at the 15, who spun away from the defender for a 22 yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 26-12.

Uriah Tenette scored on a two yard run off the left side for a 33-12 lead with a two minutes left in the third quarter. Tenette also scored the final TD of the season on a shovel pass from Rice. A bad snap followed that was picked up by Rice who found fellow senior Isaac Muffley in the end zone for the two point conversion.

Rice said, “This was a great way to close out our season. Sorry it had to come to an end so soon, but we played like we knew we could. It was a fun atmosphere tonight with the students, parents and everyone, and getting to play with these guys one final time. The line did a great job giving me a chance to throw some good passes. Johann was great tonight. Just glad we were able to have a game like this.”

Gundermann, who finished with his best offensive performance of the season with 4 receptions for 214 yards, and three touchdowns said, “What a great way to close it down. I had the first drop and I said to myself that won’t happen again. Jaxon put the ball right where it needed to be and I took it from there. It was a lot of fun. We just wanted to go out and play like we were capable of.”

Cort Lewis and Cooper Kasun led the defense with 13 tackles each. Kasun also had two scaks. Wyatt Rewerts had nine tackles including a sack. Gunnar Parra also had a sack. Tenette had a pass interception.

Mingus quarterback Reigns Stokes led the Marauders throwing for 86 yards on 6-12-1 passing and on the ground with 44 yards on 13 carries. Mario Camacho caught three passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Both Mingus and Prescott wrapped up their seasons at (4-6), with the Badgers coming fourth in the GCR at (2-3).

Ever wondered about those people who run the chain gang across the way from the home side? Well here is shout out to Rick Emmett, retired teacher from Prescott High School, who just concluded his 48th season as a member of the chain gang. That’s right 48th!  Rick’s dedication to Badger football is something to be commended.
