Badgers, Bears Focus On Friday

Photo: Uriah Tenette continues to be a playmaker for the Badgers

The Prescott Badgers and Bradshaw Mountain Bears took Friday night off with their bye week. The two teams will battle it out this coming Friday in a key Grand Canyon Region matchup.

Both teams will come into this game with a win after a loss the week before. The Bears beat Mingus 34-7, and the Badgers downed Flagstaff 53-20.

Bradshaw Mountain likes to run the ball and have a dominate senior among others able to do so. Gabriel Ricketts continues to get closer to the school rushing record. Brayden Munday makes the ground attack a pretty potent one-two punch.

The Badgers like to run as well, but have big play potential through the air too. Jaxon Rice and Uriah Tenette can keep defenses off balance at the quarterback position, with Tenette running receiver routes as well. Prescott averages 39 points a game to Bradshaw Mountain’s 27. Defensively the Bears give up 22 points versus the Badgers 27.

Five of the six teams still have a chance at the GCR title. Bradshaw Mountain will get a shot at region leader Lee Williams Volunteers in the regular season finale, but must take care of business first to make that game really count. Prescott dropped a close one in Kingman, 36-33 to the Volunteers, and Coconino dominated Bradshaw Mountain 41-7, but fell at Lee Williams 20-14 in overtime. The region could end up with a tie at the top, or even a three way tie for first when all the dust settles.

The Bears beat the Badgers 20-14 last year in Prescott Valley. In 2021 the teams split, with Bradshaw Mountain winning 24-6 in the regular season, but the Badgers took a rare playoff matchup 14-6, with both of those games being played at Prescott High School that season. In the last ten years, Prescott leads the series 7-3.

Game time at Prescott High School is 7 pm.
