Northwest Christian senior quarterback Evan Tarasenko threw for five touchdown passes in a 48-24 win over the Prescott Badgers on Bill Shepard Field. It was the second consecutive home setback for the Badgers, who drop to (1-2) on the season.

The visitors came prepared, with a good crowd, along with their band to watch the Northwest Christian Crusader team remain undefeated at (3-0).

The Crusaders struck first less than a minute into the game when Tarasenko showed off the strength and accuracy of his arm when he hit wide receiver Gunnar Penzkover in stride for an 80 yard scoring strike. Cameron Main added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Trailing by 22 to start the third quarter, Prescott went to the ground game with Adam Lloyd, and it paid off big time. Lloyd rushed for a pair of touchdowns, exploding up the middle for 72 yards. After the Badgers scored to cut the deficit to 28-12, a perfectly placed onside kick by Johann Gundermann was recovered in front of the Prescott bench by Jaxon Rice. Then it was Lloyd again, this time 17 yards through the middle to get the Badgers to within 28-18.

The Crusaders responded with a six yard run by Marshall Gillette. A bad snap on the Pat attempt kept the score at 34-18 with 10:21 left in the third quarter, making three total touchdowns in less than two minutes.

Prescott came up short on their next possession, turning the ball over on downs, which Northwest Christian took advantage of when Tarasenko connected with Muscari for a 14 yard score to push the lead back to 41-18 with five minutes left in the third.

Two consecutive possessions the Badgers got called for holding that cost them big plays, both runs around the left end by Gundermann, the first costing a sixty yard touchdown run.

Despite giving up 48 points, there were times when the Badger “D” stepped up to stop the well oiled offensive machine of Northwest Christian, but those times were fewer than what the home team needed.

Early in the fourth, Tenette ran for a 58 yard score, but once again the two point conversion failed, and it was 41-24. The Crusaders added one more score on Tarsenko’s fifth TD pass. The senior QB was 19-26-0, 324 yards. Josiah Huisman picked off a Rice pass in the final minute to close out the game. Ben Lueders led the visitors in rushing with 92 yards on 18 carries. Gillette led with 11 receptions for 80 yards and Penzkover had four catches for 172 yards, and two touchdowns apiece. Northwest Christian led 457 to 447 in total yards.

The Badgers had 317 yards of rushing led by Lloyd with 172, and Tenette with 100, along with two touchdowns each. Passing, Rice was 10-21-2 118 yards, and Tenette 3-5-0 12 yards. Gundermann caught five passes for 24 yards, with Tenette pulling in a pair for 69 yards. Seniors, Isaac Muffley and Jed Rummage also had two receptions.

Prescott will play the first of three straight road games next Friday when they travel to face the Vista Grande Spartans, who are 3-0 on the season.
