Jazz Great Chris Botti Makes a Prescott Curtain Call – Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center

Legendary trumpeter returns for June 16 Special Engagement

Yavapai College invites you to celebrate summer with the sterling sound of a trumpeter who can carry his listeners from heartfelt ballads to red-hot jazz to contemporary pop and back again. Grammy winner Chris Botti brings his one-of-a-kind music back to the Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center for a special engagement performance, Friday night, June 16, at 7 p.m.

America’s biggest-selling instrumental artist, Portland-born Chris Botti came from a musical family and was drawn to the trumpet by Miles Davis’s iconic version of “My Funny Valentine.” He spent his early career honing his chops with the likes of the Buddy Rich Big Band, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole and Joni Mitchell. He later played extensively with Paul Simon and had an especially creative association with Sting. “I wouldn’t be the performer I am today without that background,” Botti says.

With the release of his critically acclaimed 2004 CD, When I Fall In Love, Chris Botti’s sound transcended genre and began attracting pop music audiences, as well. His work with the Boston Pops and ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold and Platinum records. His latest album, Impressions, won Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. His ability to start in jazz and expand beyond the limits of any single genre has sold more than four million albums worldwide.

Botti’s smooth sound and stylistic versatility have made him a go-to collaborator with many of contemporary music’s greatest artists. Over the past three decades, he has recorded and performed with Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Josh Groban, Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, Michael Bublé, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. His elegant tone and poignant ballad phrasing have graced some of the world’s most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl to the Sydney Opera House and the Real Teatro di San Carlo in Italy.

Tickets for Chris Botti start at $49. The Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center Ticket Office is located on Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus, 1100 E. Sheldon Street, and open from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.
