Biden Admin Undermines Arizona Economy by Freezing Critical Mining Project – Rep. Eli Crane

In keeping with their theme of destroying economic prosperity and American energy, the Biden administration has halted Resolution Copper’s proposed mining project in the Tonto National Forest.

By stonewalling the finalization of an environmental impact statement (EIS), the administration has indefinitely blocked the critical project from being launched.

The project would be a massive investment in both the national and local economy. The proposed copper mine has the potential to be the largest copper mine on the North American continent and would create nearly 4,000 American jobs and generate over $60 billion in economic value.

The Biden Department of Justice initially said the EIS needed for launch would be finished “this spring.” Now, with summer quickly approaching, the agency has failed to provide a solid estimate.

“The Biden administration is kneecapping the economy of Arizona’s Second Congressional District and impeding the growth of our nation’s supply of critical minerals with their needless attacks on American mining,” Rep. Crane said. “This is exactly the kind of investment our communities need and, sadly, the economic sabotage we’re witnessing is exactly what we’ve come to expect from this administration. I strongly urge the admin to release its finalized EIS and permit this essential project.”

Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus Dan Newhouse said, “At a time when our demand for critical minerals is only increasing, it’s illogical that the Biden Administration has shut down yet another domestic source of these materials, which runs counter to the very goals they are purporting to achieve—reducing emissions and promoting American jobs. Instead, they continue to import the critical minerals we rely on from foreign, adversarial nations who extract these minerals with child and slave labor. What’s more, this senseless decision prevents the public from evaluating the project on its merits and ever reaping the benefits of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars invested in their community.”

Eli, have elected you to protect our national parks, not to sell out to industry. A giant open pit copper mine is not our idea of protecting the Tonto National Forrest. Now, knowing your position on this ruling, we should take a close look at your bed mates. Hmm…We can rule out the Sierra Club and the National Park System.

Raping and decimating the beautiful Tonto National Forest, a protected natural public use just to gain access to finite copper deposits.is shortsighted, greedy and unacceptable. Kudos to Bidens people for standing up to this unnecessary onslaught of our land.

This isn’t just a case of the 2nd District getting/(not) getting shaft, mine or otherwise. I. for one, am against giving yet more of our public lands to private/for profit entities.
Were the deal to go through, no less than 75% of real life economic gains should go to the people of our state at the very least. Hell… Why not 90%?
If the projected economic gains are $60 Billion, I think $6 Billion profit for the company is well more than enough.
    Seems reasonable….
