Prescott Frontier Days To Host Community Information and Input Session for Proposed Master Plan of Rodeo Grounds Tuesday June 6, 5-6 p.m.

Prescott Frontier Days, the World’s Oldest Rodeo, in partnership with the City of Prescott, will host an informational meeting to review the proposed master plan for the rodeo grounds on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the rodeo grounds, 840 Rodeo Drive in the Mackin Building. Citizens will hear a brief presentation, then a Q & A session. They will be able to see renderings, and learn about the long term plan to improve the grounds, and make it a world class facility for rodeo, equine events, trade shows, meetings and conferences. The meeting is intended to gather the public’s input of the proposed plan, in order to help achieve the best possible outcome.

The rodeo grounds are City of Prescott property, and are used for the World’s Oldest Rodeo, Yavapai County Fair and other events throughout the year. Prescott Frontier Days, is the non-profit organization that operates the World’s Oldest Rodeo and manages the rodeo grounds as part of a long term lease with the City. A ridiculous idea given that the surrounding roads would not come close to supporting imagined traffic flow let alone the physical footprint for parking is beyond lacking. Shame on the State of Arizona for giving taxpayer money to the Prescott Frontier Days (a non-profit…read as non-taxable). If the PFD didn’t smell profit they would not even have attempted to garner this funding. I urge all current Prescott citizens to drive the circle around the fairgrounds and see how far-fetched an idea this is (Gail Gardner, Fair Street, Schemmer Drive and Miller Valley Road). Why not taxpayer money used for the majority of tax payers not the minority equine crowd? IE: Aquatic Center and requisite fitness interests.

  2. The Prescott city government does not appear to have a plan for the current increase in traffic, and clearly has not even considered the increased traffic load which the proposed Master Plan will generate on Gail Gardner, Fair Street, Schemmer Drive, and Miller Valley Road. Elections are coming up, so keep the city government’s actions and failures in mind when you vote. Also, our state representatives colluded with this cabal to spend our tax dollars without any consideration of the Master Plan’s impact upon local taxpayers. What were they thinking? They need to hear from their constituents.

    1. This expansion plan is being proposed by the Prescott Frontier Days organization that manages the rodeo grounds (grounds which are owned by the city). Based on recent news articles, it’s become clear this expansion plan has not been coordinated with Prescott city government….not the mayor nor the council members. Suggest you attend the June 6 meeting and see who’s really behind this plan. And give input! I agree the plan is a traffic disaster, not to mention what it would do to our historic rodeo grounds.

  3. This proposed master plan hasn’t yet been approved by the City. This is the time to learn what’s proposed and to make our views heard.
