The Prescott Badgers handed the Flagstaff Eagles their first GCR loss on Tuesday (10-5), but could not pull off the season sweep, falling to the Eagles at home 10-7.
Flagstaff freshman Will Carpenter pitched a good game limiting the Badgers to one good inning, the fourth. Prescott started off by spotting the Eagles three runs in the top of the first with a pair of walks, two hit batters and a pair of singles.
The Badgers got one run back, but ran themselves out of the inning with the final out coming in a rundown. The Eagles added four more in the second, including a three run blast over the left field fence by Luke Hewes, for a 7-1 lead, and chasing starter Paul Fernow. Ryan Orvis came in to close out the inning, and should have gotten out of the third unscathed, but two unearned runs came across to put the deficit to 9-1. Tritan McKown came in to get the final out, and would go on to pitch into the seventh.

In the third, two runs came across for the Badgers. First, Lukas Barrett singled in Ryan Elliot. Luke Tobin, who had walked, scored on a weak throw back to the pitcher that got away, giving Tobin time to scamper home.
After a quiet fourth for both offenses, Jack Burton came up with a bases clearing double down the left field line in the fifth to close the gap to 9-6. Lukas Barrett’s grounder to the right side scored Burton, making it 9-7.
The bottom of the sixth proved to be costly for the Badgers, as they left the bases loaded. Carpenter started the inning on the hill, but was pulled to bring in another freshman, Brody Johnson. The reliever was wild walking the bases loaded, before pulling it all together, and leaving Prescott with a goose egg in the frame.

McKown was relieved in the seventh by Ryan Elliot, as the Eagles were only able to pick up a run on a bases loaded sacrifice fly. The Badgers went relatively quiet in the seventh, as Johnson was sharper, allowing only a walk to Cooper Magnett to close out the game.
Badger coach Barry Tolli said, “First of all hats off to Flagstaff. They took advantage of our sloppy play early, and you just can’t play like that against a good team. I was thoughly proud of our guys for not giving up. We continued to battle and if we could have gotten a hit or two in the sixth, we could have pulled it out.”
The Badgers fall to (8-2) in the GCR, and (13-7), overall. Prescott has two big games with rival Bradshaw Mountain next week. First at home on Tuesday at 3pm. The regular season finale will be in Prescott Valley at 7pm. Prescott is currently ranked #18 in the AIA division 4A. Flagstaff is #9, and Bradshaw Mountain #10.

The Prescott Badgers came up short in a battle with the first place Eagles in Flagstaff 15-12.
The Badgers came out swinging and looked strong early, building a big eleven run lead. The power was there as Prescott hit four homeruns. Kennedy Carr hit two, Ava Hlavacek and RJ Parra one each, as the three players combined 12 hits and 10 RBIs. Prescott’s eleven run lead would nearly disappear in the bottom of the third.
The Flagstaff offense woke up scoring nine times in the inning to take pull within two. A scoreless frame by the Badgers kept the momentum up for the home team, who scored four more times for a 13-11 lead. The Eagles added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Prescott managed only one run in their final at bat to fall by three. Abby Schmitz, Reese Elliot, and Cailee Culwell each had a homerun, with Olivia Lanssens leading her team with four RBIs.
Prescott (5-4) in the Grand Canyon Region, (7-10) overall, will visit Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday at 3:45 pm, before returning home to face the rival Bears on Thursday at 4pm.
