Lady Badgers Blowout Mohave 60-19, Boys Dominate on the Road

Bella Abt scored 17 points with 8 rebounds and Zoe Libis added 13 in the Lady Badger 60-19 blowout region opener win over Mohave in the Badger Dome.

The Lady Badgers came out with some sheer intensity with pressure defense to set the tone early. Mohave struggled for shots and even getting it into the front court was a mild victory, as Prescott built a 16-0 lead after one quarter. Cayla Cotter made one of two free throws a minute plus into the second quarter to get the goose egg off the scoreboard, but Prescott had another very impressive quarter, as Rylee Hobson, Ashley Cunnigham, Zoe Libis and Abt had points in building a huge 35-1 lead at the half.

Bella Abt said, “Our tournament was a good opportunity to play against some really good teams, which will help us in region play. Tonight was a good example of that. We came in, wanting to set the tempo, working hard for good shots, and to build a lead. Actually, we did not realize how big a lead we had at halftime. We just kept playing hard. It was definitely shocking, because we didn’t realize what the score was.”

Mohave came to life in the third quarter, scoring 14, but still trailed 52-15, heading into the final quarter and the running clock. Eight of the nine Prescott players scored. It was good way to start region play for the home team.

Prescott (1-0) in the Grand Canyon Region and (6-8) overall will visit Coconino in Flagstaff, on Thursday at 5:30pm.

The Prescott Badgers made it nine out of ten to start the season with a 64-36 blowout win over the Mohave Thunderbirds in Bullhead City.

Uriah Tenette led all scorers with 27, as the Badgers jumped on top 22-8 in the first quarter. Zane Gaul once again controlled the paint with 14 points and 9 rebounds, as both he and Tenette played only roughly three quarters. A running clock for the final eight minutes ended the game quickly.

Prescott, which outscored the Thunderbirds in each quarter, led 36-18 at the half. A 55-30 lead after three quarters implemented the running clock. Andrew Lyon knocked down the only three point in the game by the Badgers. That coming in the third quarter. Sophomore, Kingzten Bristol led Mohave (5-8) with 10 points.

Next up for the Badgers will be a visit by the Coconino Panthers, tonight in the Badger Dome. Coconino has struggled early this season at (7-9). The teams split the two games last season, with each team picking up a win at home. Tipoff at 7 pm.
