The Badgers continued on their quest for a state championship with a 6-0 win over the Cactus Cobras at Prescott High School.  The match was over in about an hour with a good crowd on hand to enjoy the Badger victory.

Megan Townsend, who finished Division 2 state singles runner-up said, “Playing in state was a lot of fun. I loved it. I worked all season to get there. I was able to play some tough competition that I had not seen during the regular season. It was disappointing to lose in the final, but I was happy to have been there.”  As for the team tournament, and the road to the championship, Townsend added “We have been looking forward to this all year.”

Townsend made quick work of her counterpart as did Riley Crockett. The only junior on this year’s varsity squad, Crockett said, “It has been a lot of fun getting to play with the seniors over the past couple years and we are ready to end on a high note. Playing in consecutive days can be a bit tiring, but helps your play stay at a higher level. This is fun.”

Elle Long dropped the first game, but came back strong to finish off her opponent. Lauren Farley and Breckyn Tubbs both swept their opponents as well.

Something noteworthy is that Prescott has given each of the other three semifinal teams their only loss of the season.

The Badgers will host Chaparral today at 4 pm. The winner will play for the championship at Desert Vista High School in South Phoenix on Thursday.
