The Bradshaw Mountain Bears fell to the Buckeye Hawks on a rare early Saturday evening contest 34-22 in Prescott Valley. The game was moved from Friday due to an officials shortage. A good Bears crowd enjoyed to the new P.A. system and scoreboard, but not the final score.
Buckeye put the Bears in a hole early, jumping on top 14-0 midway through the first quarter. Bradshaw Mountain responded with a touchdown run by Gabriel Ricketts to cut the deficit in half. The Hawks scored one final time in the quarter to lead 21-7, which turned out to be the halftime score after a scoreless second frame by both squads.
The Hawks went up 28-7 and with two possessions ending in fumbles by the Bears it looked as if it was all over. A late third quarter TD cut the deficit to 28-14, and when Grady Rose connected with Tanner Mitchell, and following a two point conversion, all of the sudden it was 28-22 with four minutes remaining.
Buckeye (3-0) sealed the win with Tongotea’s third rushing touchdown on their next possession to win by twelve. Tongotea led the Buckeyes with 149 yards rushing and Ricardo Juarez threw for 285 yards an two touchdowns, both to Darius Haskin who had five total catches for 258 yards.
Bradshaw Mountain was led by quarterback Grady Rose, who was 11-28-0 for 115 yards and a TD throwing and one rushing. Gabriel Ricketts with 66 yards rushing and one touchdown before leaving the game with an injury. Tanner Mitchell caught four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. The Bears drop to (1-1) on the season and will travel to the San Tan Valley to face Combs next Friday at 7pm.

Chino Valley suffered a lopsided 55-6 home loss to the River Valley Dust Devils.
The Cougars scored late in the second quarter on a pass from backup quarterback Joseph Knisely to Ashton Loftin. Johnny Parrish had a good night on the ground, rushing for 196 yards on 22 carries. Turnovers and a good Dust Devil offense/defense proved costly. Two interceptions, two fumbles, plus an overthrown pass on a fake punt did not help the Cougars cause.
River Valley (1-1) in the 3A West Region and (3-2) overall, was led by QB Gavin Hogencamp and running back Kenneth Clay. Chino Valley drops to (0-2) and (2-3). The Cougars will host Florence on Friday at 7 pm.
