[Editor’s Note: Two of the Chino Valley athletes are battling cancer this season and the Chino Valley Youth Sports organization is trying to help their families by alleviating some of the financial burdens they are dealing with so that they can focus on recovering and on each other. Here is Kevin’s story.]
Local hero and Majors Cougar #49, Kevin Garcia, checked into Banner Health last week to get ready for his bone marrow transplant.
This is just the latest measure being taken to help Kevin beat cancer! Recent tests came back negative and this is great news going into the next phase of his treatment plan which is aggressive and will include many months of monitoring and follow-ups.
His dad, Mark, says “Kevin will be in for a long and tough battle but he is strong and determined to beat this.” We are all so inspired by this young man’s strength and beauty as he goes through these tough times with his chin up and sharing his smile with everyone!
Since the hospital will be ‘home’ for the next couple of months, his family helped him decorate with pictures to remind him of good times -past and future. Chino Valley Youth Football and Cheer has launched a campaign to support our Cougars who are fighting cancer and help their families cope with the hardships these circumstances bring.
We adore this community and all the beautiful hearts that continue to show-up for its most vulnerable members. You can show your support by donating to Kevin’s GoFundMe account (https://www.gofundme.com/f/
For more information on how to purchase a “Fight Like A Cougar” hat or other ways to support these courageous young men please visit Chino Valley Youth Sports on Facebook. The hats cost $30 and all proceeds go to the two boys.
