Firefighters Work to Secure Fire’s Edge on the Slate Fire

Location: 8 miles south of Prescott, AZ on the Bradshaw RD (T12N, R2W, S9)

Firefighters responded to a smoke report at 11:00 am on Sunday, July 12, 2020 approximately 8 miles south of Prescott, near Mt Tritle (12N, R2W, Sec 9). Yesterday aviation resources were able to keep the growth of the Slate fire to 10 acres which allowed ground resources to make access to the fire just before sundown. Today crews will begin fire suppression efforts by constructing containment lines to secure the fires edge. We’d like to remind the public to stay out of the fire area for their safety and for firefighter safety.

Resources: 1 – Type 2 Crew, 3 – Type 1 Crews, 1 – Type 1 Helicopter, 1- Type 3 Helicopter, air attack aircraft and miscellaneous overhead personnel; and air tankers as needed.
Weather: Hot and dry conditions will continue today with the possibility of an isolated shower or storm. Light winds becoming southwest around 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph.
In the interest of safety, the public is asked to not travel in the vicinity of Lower Wolf Creek, Senator Highway south of County Road 101, and the community of Potato Patch as firefighters and fire-related traffic will be traveling in the area.
