Badgers Open Season with Win Over St. Mary’s

Sophomore quarterback Rylee Hart threw for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Prescott Badgers to a 17-3 win over the St. Mary’s Knights. 

Hart had a busy night completing 21 of 31 passes after settling in. On the ground it was Ellie Richards with 19 yards on 3 carries and Hart had 17 yards also on 3 carries. 

Six different receivers caught passes for the Badgers. Isabella Ramos and Halle Terelak-Foster each had a touchdown reception with Addy Brandon leading the team with 7 receptions for 87 yards. Brinkley Larson had the longest play with a catch for 43 yards and started off the game with a 22 yard field goal to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead after one quarter.

Prescott grew the lead to 10-0 with just 16 seconds left in the first half on the pass from Hart to Terelak-Foster After a scoreless third quarter, the Badgers went on top 17-0 early in the 4th when Hart connected with Isabella Ramos.

The Badgers defense was stellar that included three interceptions by sophomore Ella Pifer and it wasn’t till the very end that they gave up points. St. Mary’s opted to kick a field goal in the final seconds of the game to avoid a second shutout in as many years. Last year the Badgers shutout the Knights 20-0 in Phoenix.

Prescott head coach Ryan Hart begins his 3rd season leading the Badgers and now has an impressive combined record of (32-4) after the win on Monday night.

Coach Hart said, “It was a great game overall, with adversity and grit playing a big role in shaping our first win. Addalyn Brandon had a huge game before leaving early in the 4th with an ankle injury. Our defense played well registering 4 interceptions. Pressure on the QB all night was impactful. Lucy Zembick played strong ‘D’ and Ella Pifer had 3 interceptions.”

Prescott (1-0) will return home after a pair of road games versus Tempe and Pinnacle to face Desert Mountain on Tuesday at 6pm. Then on Wednesday the Badgers host Monument Valley at 5pm.
