The second half of the horseshoe pitching season opened up for the Mile Hi Horseshoe Club at Watson Lake on Saturday with some good competition on a warm morning in Prescott.

There were three pitchers who took home the patch and the winning cash in the Mile Hi Classic Tournament. It was a rough day on the courts for all the pitchers as they struggled to throw at their seasons average.

Trisha Lincoln went 3-1 on the day and was the overall tournament champion. Her only loss on the day was an early setback to John Lincoln who finished third. Hal Handelman took second.

Class B was a real battle but when the dust settled the title was won by Carl Lincoln of Kingman. Carl and his wife Sheila made the trip over and it paid off. Thanks to Sheila for helping keep score so some of the players could get a good break in between their games. In a tie for second in the win-loss columns, it was Cody Williams who won out by pitching 1.15 percent better on the day to finish second and Robert Chubinsky ended in third.

Larry Jones had the best day of any player when it came to pitching your average, and that paid off with a first place finish in Class C. Kelley Cordes returned for the first time since April and finished second and Brian Belcher took third.

The early rising club member groundskeepers continue to do an amazing job of prepping the courts and making sure things are ready to go come tournament time. There will be one more tournament at Watson Lake this year due to city schedules of other events. The grand finale will be on Saturday, September 12 at 9am.

The next tournament locally will be at American Legion Park, 3281 Bob Drive, in Prescott Valley on Saturday beginning at 8am..
