“Make no mistake about it. Gun control is not about crook control. It’s about America control.” – Derrick Grayson
Arizona is a strong Second Amendment state. Yet, if one looks at our state offices, the top tier of our state government are occupied by liberal Democrats. The governor, secretary of state and attorney general are pretty much anti-gun. While the Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes claims to be a moderate on gun rights, she has moved away from her predecessor’s strong 2nd Amendment stance. Arizona’s two liberal Democrat US Senators are strong anti-gun advocates. The only balance we have is that in the US Congress. Republicans have six members and the Democrats only have three elected members.
Republicans have been less than stellar in elections against leftist, anti-gun Democrats. Mark Kelly was first elected to the Senate in 2019 in a special election. When he ran for reelection in 2022, against Blake Masters, the Republicans and Masters neglected to stress how anti-gun Senator Kelly was. Perhaps they feared there might be a voter backlash because Kelly’s wife, Representative Gabby Giffords, was seriously injured in a firearms attack a few years prior. Many voters probably didn’t think that a military veteran would be so fundamentally anti-gun. Whatever the reason, Kelly’s pro position on gun control was barely mentioned in that election cycle.
Senator Ruben Gallegos is another strong advocate for gun control. While the major issues when he was elected in 2024, were the economy, inflation and the open Biden border, if Ruben’s leftist gun control position were stressed also, he might have lost to Kari Lake. Gallegos won by little more than 80,000 votes. Pointing out Gallegos’ extreme position on gun control might have turned the tide.
About three quarters of Democrats in Arizona support stricter gun laws. That leaves 25% that the Republicans might sway in a close election. Independent voters could go either way. If Republicans would make any Democrat’s anti-Second Amendment stance in any election a prominent issue, they could tilt public opinion to the Republican candidate. In Arizona, that could make the difference between winning and losing an election.
Those who study and know the history of our Constitution realize that the 2nd Amendment was placed in that important document for specific reasons. It was meant to not only protect the freedom and safety of individuals from predators and criminals, but to protect them from a government that might become abusive of its citizens. The Founders knew from experience that one of the first things the British tried to do, was to seize and destroy all of the weapons the American colonists had stockpiled in Concord. They realized that an unarmed rebellion had no chance of succeeding.
Since then, history has shown that every tyrannical government since, has first disarmed its people to gain complete control of their citizenry. It is the most important tool used by dictators. Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot were all able commit mass murder on their unarmed countrymen. With all of the communist Social Democrats getting elected in the Democrat primary elections, we need to emphasize the importance and protect the 2nd Amendment. Would anyone be surprised if the Democratic Socialist gained a majority in Congress, the first thing they would do would be to pass gun confiscation legislation?
“In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others unable to defend themselves were exterminated.” – Joe Wurzelbacher
