Over the weekend, the Prescott Police Department received multiple reports of auto burglaries involving suspects checking vehicle doors and stealing high-value items left inside vehicles. In every reported case, the vehicles were unlocked. This serves as an important reminder to help protect yourself from becoming a victim:
Always lock your vehicle, even when parked at home
• Close windows completely
• Remove valuables and important items from your vehicle
• Do not leave wallets, purses, electronics, firearms, keys, or cash inside
• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible
Most vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Suspects often walk through neighborhoods and parking lots simply checking door handles, looking for easy targets. Taking a few moments to lock your vehicle and remove valuables can greatly reduce your risk of theft.
If you observe suspicious activity, such as individuals checking vehicle doors or moving from car to car, please call 911.
