Wranglers Fall To Rattlers

Arizona quarterback Drew Powell completed 80% of his passes for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Arizona Rattlers to a 56-32 over the Northern Arizona Wranglers in Glendale.

Northern Arizona found themselves down early as Arizona jumped on top and led throughout. Opening up a 16-3 lead after a Kynami Clarke touchdown run with 3:30 left in the opening quarter.

NAZ quarterback Anthony Garrett scored the first Wranglers TD on a 4 yard run to make it 16-10.

The Wranglers closed to within a single point at 26-25 with forty- three seconds left in the half when Anthony Garrett’s second touchdown pass to Marlon Cook Jr, followed by a Nestor Manuel-Higuera deuce. 

The Rattlers countered with twelve seconds left when Drew Powell threw a pass to former Wrangler Arland Bruce IV.  Mathew Cook added the deuce on the kickoff to boost the Arizona lead to 35-25 at the half.

In the third, a promising drive by the Wranglers to open the second half ended with an interception by the Rattlers Yahsyn McKee in the end zone.

Arizona began to pull away by adding to their lead with a 14 yard run by Kymani Clarke to go on top 41-25. The Wranglers were stopped on a fourth down and goal at the Arizona 4 yard line, giving the ball back to the Rattlers.

The deficit grew when Powell found Dukes for a 7 yard TD pass and the Rattlers led 48-25 as the clock ran out in the third quarter. Each team added a touchdown in the final quarter as the Wranglers dropped their second straight road game and fell to (1-8) on the season.

Garrett competed 16 of 27 for 147 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Nolan Susel led the ground game with 39 yards on 8 carries. Susel also pulled in 3 passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. Malon Cook Jr had two first half touchdowns with 5 catches for 45 yards. Kieran Page led the defense with 9 tackles  and an interception.

Arizona (7-3) will get a week off and return to action on June 14 when they host Fishers Freight. Northern Arizona returns home and will host the Vegas Knighthawks on Sunday at 4:30pm
