On Thursday, May 21, 2026, at approximately 1:18 a.m., Prescott Police officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Pines at Prescott Apartment Complex, located at 1053 Sandretto Drive.
Upon arrival, officers located an empty parking space containing shattered glass and several 9mm shell casings. A faint blood trail was also observed leading away from the scene. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots, seeing a black BMW SUV with a shattered rear windshield and multiple bullet holes leaving the complex, and observing a male subject running through the parking lot.
A short time later, officers located a black BMW SUV traveling with a black Audi A6 sedan on Prescott Lakes Parkway. A traffic stop was conducted on the BMW, which was occupied by a female driver and a male passenger. Officers observed multiple bullet holes in both the exterior and interior of the vehicle.
During the stop, officers saw the Audi A6 make a U-turn and drive past the scene. A traffic stop was conducted on the Audi several blocks away, and the driver and male passenger were detained.
The investigation revealed that the female driver of the BMW and the male passenger of the Audi, an 18-year-old Prescott resident, were involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the apartment complex parking lot. During the argument, the male suspect used a handgun to break the driver’s side window of the BMW. He subsequently fired six rounds into the rear of the unoccupied vehicle.
The suspect, Daniel Jose Apolinar, was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault (Domestic Violence)
- Aggravated Assault
- Discharge of a Firearm at a Nonresidential Structure
- Use of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Criminal Damage (Domestic Violence)
