SCAM ALERT: Fake Traffic Ticket Texts Circulating – Prescott Police Department

We’ve received reports of text messages claiming to be from Arizona courts about “unpaid traffic violations” or “mandatory collections.”

These messages are NOT legitimate.

What to do:

On This Day in History — 1975
  • Do NOT click any links or scan QR codes
  • Do NOT send money or provide personal information
  • Delete the message

Watch for these red flags:

  • Courts do NOT send payment demands by text
  • Messages use urgent or threatening language to pressure you
  • They may include a QR code or suspicious payment link
  • The violation listed may be vague or not match your history
  • The graphic may include a seal that appears AI-generated
  • Typos and grammar errors are often present
  • Mentions of toll roads — remember, there are NO toll roads in Arizona

If you’re unsure about a ticket, contact your local court directly using official contact information, not what’s provided in the text.

It’s important to pay close attention to the details anytime you receive ANY request for money.

Help protect others by sharing this warning.
