Swift action by a YCSO Animal Control Officer (ACO), neighbors, and fire crews saved an 80-year-old resident and prevented a house fire from spreading to nearby homes.
At approximately 12:45 PM on Friday (Feb. 27th), a YCSO ACO arrived first at a structure fire in Paulden. The officer immediately helped make sure the homeowner was moved to safety and evacuated residents from adjacent houses. Neighbors also acted heroically, helping the resident to safety and helping rescue her vehicle and pets from the advancing flames.

CAFMA (Central Arizona Fire and Medical) firefighters quickly contained the blaze to the primary structure, protecting neighboring properties from the high-risk fire. The homeowner was transported to a medical center for a precautionary evaluation due to smoke exposure. Initial investigation indicates the fire is accidental, likely originating near a medical device.
While neighbors successfully saved two of the resident’s three dogs, one pet ran back into the home and was unaccounted for at last report.
YCSO extends a sincere thank-you to the neighbors, the YCSO Animal Control Officer, and CAFMA for their response in helping save lives, pets, and property.
