After a record setting 25 wins regular season, the Prescott Lady Badgers were placed at #11 in the AIA Open Division 32 team state tournament and faced a very challenging home game versus the 6A West Valley Region champ Valley Vista Lady Monsoon.
Valley Vista used their size and aggressiveness to beat Prescott 64-33 in the Badger Dome.

The officials let the much more physical Monsoon go literally go over or through the physically smaller Lady Badgers most of the game. Prescott also struggled offensively. The combination resulted in a 31 point loss to visiting Valley Vista.
Addie Prisciandaro scored 20 points and said, “This open tournament we are playing a bigger school and a more aggressive team than we are used to during our regular season. We just have to accept that it was a great learning experience for us. While we’re sad that we didn’t win the game, we still have the opportunity to go back to 4A and dominate there so we’re hoping we get far there.”

Valley Vista scored the first seven points, Prescott scored the next four on baskets by Bella Abt and Prisciandaro. Valley Vista answered with the next seven to lead 14-4. Meanwhile Abt, Bentlee Crockett, and Cate Jones were getting bounced around in the paint. Abt worked hard to get 9 rebounds and Crockett also with 5. Sixteen fouls were called on Valley Vista, but that could have easily been doubled.
Prescott had a much better second quarter as they were able to get their shots to drop. The deficit stayed at double digits, but the Lady Badgers were equal to the task. Prescott had an opportunity to get within ten at halftime but went to the locker room trailing 32-19.
The third quarter saw Prescott turn the ball over while Valley Vista was very aggressive to the basket again resulting in increasing their lead to 44-22. By the quarters end the score was 53-27.
All but one 4A school lost their first Open Division game. That team being Salpointe Catholic, who the Lady Badgers lost to earlier this season. Flagstaff also suffered a loss and will be back in the 4A playoffs as well that begin on February 26.
Prescott (25-4) will wait and see what seed they will have and who they will host in the first round of the Division 4A playoffs.
