Photo: Lilly James scored 14 points in the win
Bella Abt scored 19 and Lilly James added 14 to lead the Prescott Lady Badgers to a come from behind 56-51 victory over the Sunnyslope Lady Vikings in Phoenix.
It was an impressive win for Prescott, based on the fact that they had to come from behind on the road against a larger school, and got some big help down the stretch from Lilly James. The junior guard came through in a big way Saturday afternoon, knocking down four three pointers, three of which came in the final eight minutes aiding in the Lady Badgers comeback.
Prescott trailed 41-35 after three quarters, and that is when James with 9 points and Abt with 6 led the charge back. Maggie Luba led Sunnyslope with 19. Luba was dominant early, but only scored two points in the final quarter.
Prescott, #2 in Division 4A, also helped their cause at the free throw line making 5 of 6 in the fourth quarter, and 12 of 16 in the game, which equates to 75%.
Sunnyslope plays in the 6A Central Region and dropped their second game in a row to fall to (11-9).
Prescott is now (20-3) and after posting a (22-8) record last season, it is the first time in recent memory that the Lady Badgers have had 20 or more back-to-back. The only other times in the last twenty years that Prescott has won 20 or more was when they went (22-6) in the 2015-16, and (23-5) in the 2009-10 season. Those seasons ended in a quarterfinal loss and a semifinal loss.
The Lady Badgers will travel on Tuesday to play Coconino in Flagstaff at 7pm.
