Lady Badgers Smother St. Mary’s in 78-15 Win : High School Basketball

The Prescott Lady Badgers remained perfect on the season with a 78-15 victory over the St. Mary’s Lady Knights. Addie Prisciandaro led all scorers with 23 points. Bella Abt added 16 and sophomore Cate Jones battled inside scoring 15 points and went a perfect five for five from the free throw line. Kylee Murdock was also in double figures with 13 points.

The Lady Badgers set the tempo early as they jumped out to a 15-0 lead before St. Mary’s found the basket. Prisciandaro and Abt filled the lanes for buckets early on to get the jump out of the gate. The Prescott defense was stingy and aggressive as they held the Lady Knights to just two points in the first quarter as Prescott went on top 25-2.

The lead continued to grow as the Lady Badgers crashed the boards with Abt, Jones, and Murdock leading the way. Prescott led 47-11 at the half.

More of the same in the third as the Lady Badgers held St. Mary’s (2-3) scoreless the entire quarter. The final quarter was played with a running clock for a quick finish to another Lady Badgers victory.

Cate Jones said, “I have been focusing on my rebounding and being aggressive and I think it showed tonight. I was able to get things done inside.” About the season this far, Jones added, “I’m very excited for this season and what we are out to accomplish.”

Coach Jami Johnson was content with the win but knows there are still things to work on. “We looked good, but to be honest we haven’t played anybody yet. I think we are taking steps in the right direction but we are no way near where we want to be. The competition is going to get better and we will need to meet the challenges that those teams present.”

Prescott (3-0) will travel to Tucson to play in the Salpointe Catholic Cactus Clash with four games beginning on Thursday with a 7:30pm game with the host Salpointe Catholic. Two games on Friday at 1:00pm versus Pinnacle and 5:30pm against Catalina Foothills. The Lady Badgers wrap things up against Nogales on Saturday at 10:30am.
