Looking back, it is not easy to determine exactly when the woke movement started in this country, but it probably gained a hold sometime in the Clinton Administration. With the left’s persistence to incrementally push their programs on the unsuspecting public, they started with civil partnerships for gay couples that morphed into gay marriage. The large majority of our population was opposed to gay marriage, including most Democrat leaders until popular opinion eroded enough that those same Dem leaders flipped and suddenly were pro gay marriage.
Clinton’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy about gays in the military transformed into allowing openly gay individuals into the military services. Woke agendas gathered steam when Obama was president. Under Biden, everything woke was promoted and the gays in the military policy broadened to allowing wannabe transsexuals into our military and our taxes paying for the transition.
There are innumerable examples of wokesters using this same template on other issues, from the teaching of true American and Constitutional history through most of the 20th century to teaching the 1690 distortion of history in this century. This same template was used to deny basic gender science to allow biological men to compete in women’s sports and use women’s locker rooms and restrooms.
They did the same thing, trying to appear pious, when the leftist woke media and promoters came out against alleged or greatly exaggerated racist, brutal police. Their ultimate goal was revealed with the “defund the police” movement.
In a related area, the self named democratic socialists, communists and other Democrats then claimed that the criminal justice system was “systemically racist” and needed to be fixed. Their fix was to eliminate some misdemeanor crimes, recategorize many felony crimes into misdemeanors and lessen the punishments for a great many crimes. To add to this idiocy, they enacted “no bail” releases for those arrested and gave massive amounts of money to elect far leftist prosecutors who would hardly prosecute the most violent crimes. They had and continued to appoint anti-law and order judges who refused to punish or lessened the sentences of convicted felons.
You can only attack the intellect of Americans for so long before they start to rebel. In the first Obama term, the signing and enactment of the Affordable Care Act, (Obama Care), and the lies told to sell it to the people, caused a conservative push back. Tea Party organizations popped up all over the country.
Now we know that everything the Tea Partiers claimed about Obama Care turned out to be correct.
Rush Limbaugh, God rest his soul, commented on social cultural issues years before the word “woke” came into common use. He eloquently pointed out the asininity of such woke issues that were then known as political correctness, cancel culture and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Other well read commentators like Victor Davis Hanson have studied, written and spoken about the history and dangers of wokism. Mark Levin equates woke culture with American Marxism. Political commentator, Christopher Rufo has spoken about how woke ideology cost Kamala Harris the presidency and is probably ruining the Democrat party.
Many Republican politicians like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have battled and won victories over woke programs and laws that have been enacted or place locally and statewide. Of course, the important wins against the disease of wokism, have been won by President Trump and his remarkable Cabinet and Administration. The President, Administration and Cabinet were put into the leadership of this country by the best battlers and winners in this wokism war, American voters with common sense.
