YCSO Seeks Public’s Help in Identifying Assault Suspects at Granite Basin

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man and a woman suspected of being involved in a violent assault on a hiking trail at Granite Basin Lake Saturday morning.

On September 6, 2025, at approximately 8:45 a.m., two hikers on Trail 261 encountered another couple walking with a large brown dog. Following a brief verbal exchange regarding the dog, the male suspect allegedly physically assaulted one of the hikers, punching him multiple times. When the second hiker attempted to intervene, she was attacked by the female suspect.

The suspected assault ended when the male suspect is alleged to have produced a small black handgun and pointed it at one of the victims before he and the female suspect left the area, heading back toward the main parking lot. The victims sustained minor injuries and declined medical transport.

Deputies responded quickly but were unable to locate the suspects, who may have left the area before law enforcement arrived.

Suspects are described as:
A white male in his 30s or 40s with a thin build and slight facial stubble.
A white female in her 30s or 40s with long blonde hair. She was seen wearing dark-colored shorts and a white wristwatch.
The couple was accompanied by a large brown dog.

YCSO is urging anyone who was in the Granite Basin Lake area, including the trails, parking lots, or campgrounds, on the morning of Saturday, September 6th, and may have seen this couple to please come forward.

If you have any information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspects, please contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 771-3260. To remain anonymous, you can submit a tip to Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232 or online at https://www.yavapaisw.com/
