Firefighters added additional containment on the fire along the southwest flank. It is 85% contained with no change in acreage; 913.
Over the next few shifts, resources will continue with mop up operations, checking and improving line and patrolling the fire’s perimeter checking for any lingering smokes.
Hot and very dry conditions continue to hover across the fire area – and across the state. These weather conditions along with low relative humidity levels, wind gusts, and dry fuel could spur new starts in the area. Residents are urged to use caution when working outdoors or recreating.
The Kirkland Fire started Friday, August 1, approximately 3:15 pm, 2 miles northeast of Hillside in Yavapai County. Due to hot and dry conditions, and driven by the wind, the fire quickly grew, pushing to the north/northeast toward the community of Yava.
