With the recent approval of the state budget, the City of Prescott is set to receive $15.3 million for infrastructure improvements at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. The funds, which were originally allocated to Prescott Frontier Days in 2023, were in limbo after a Maricopa County judge ruled the allocation violated the state’s gift clause. As a point of clarification, the City was not involved in that litigation.
I want to extend my thanks and recognition to Senator Finchem, along with the support of Representatives Nguyen and Bliss, who were able to secure these funds for the City to implement necessary improvements at the rodeo grounds as part of this year’s legislative session.
This is an important opportunity for the City of Prescott and our rodeo grounds. We look forward to investing these funds in the upgrade and renovation of the rodeo grounds in the best interest of the city, the rodeo, the participants, the visitors, and all other users of the rodeo grounds for their safety and enjoyment.

We are joining the federal government in naming July as “Parks and Recreation Month,” and I want to take this time to remind everyone of the beautiful parks we have in the City of Prescott, and of course, there is more to come.
We have fields for baseball and soccer, brand new courts for basketball and pickleball, beautiful parks, biking and hiking trails and so much more.
These Parks and Recreational activities contribute fundamentally to our community well-being and provide healthy opportunities for everyone.

The Annual Drinking Water Quality Report for Year 2024 is now available online. The Water Quality Report is a comprehensive report issued by the City of Prescott Water Operations Division.
This annual report identifies the sources of Prescott’s drinking water, provides water quality information, and summarizes analytical tests of the City’s drinking water supply for the calendar year 2024. During 2024, water from the City system met all applicable federal and state drinking water health standards.

Ballots were mailed out last week for this year’s August 5th Primary Election. There are two candidates for Mayor, and five candidates for three Council seats.
In addition, Prop 482, regarding the Home Rule Alternative Expenditure limitation; and Prop 484 which is an Open Space Charter Amendment is on the ballot.
This is a mail-in election. Early voting is currently underway, and your last day to request an early ballot by mail is July 25th. Ballots must arrive at the County election center by 7 PM on August 5, 2025.
If you wish to vote in person, you can do so at the County Election Office in Prescott by August 5th, but vote centers will not be open for this election.

On July 8th, Council completed the first of two City Council Study Sessions regarding the Effluent & Wastewater Pipelines and SR89 Improvements project and opened the 60-day Public Comment Period. Public Comments will be collected at the project website.
Staff has also added additional information to the project website Virtual Meeting Room: a Project Update, Traffic Impact Analysis, and the three Roadway Alternatives presented to City Council.

There will be a special Council Meeting on August 5 at 3 PM, extending the discussion of the appeal from the developers of the Prescott Plaza Hotel. This Hotel is proposed to be located in the middle of Whiskey Row on South Montezuma Street.
During this meeting, staff will provide a full Administrative Review and report from the City’s Historic Preservation Specialist, as well as possible feedback from the Prescott Preservation Commission.

The City Council Subcommittee on Appointments is currently seeking applications from citizens who are interested in serving on the following City Boards, Commissions & Committees:
The Fire Board of Appeals – has 2 vacancies, and 1 short-term seat to fill a vacancy. Applicants must be a Prescott resident.
The Tourism Advisory Committee has 1 vacancy. City of Prescott residency is not required.
Civic Enhancement Committee has 1 short term vacancy. Prescott Residency is not required.
The Prescott Preservation Commission has 1 short term vacancy. Applicants must be a Prescott resident.
Boards, Commissions, and Committees provide opportunities for citizens to take an active role in their local government. Members are appointed by the City Council upon recommendation from the Council Subcommittee on Appointments following review of applications.
The application deadline has been extended. The applications must now be turned in to the city by 5:00 PM Friday, July 25th, 2025.
