On Saturday, Prescott Fire Engines 71 and 72, along with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Forest Service – Prescott National Forest responded to a small wildland fire off Copper Basin Road near the Aspen Creek Trailhead. Crews quickly brought the fire under control. Thankfully, no structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Prescott Fire Department would like to remind everyone that despite it being winter, dry conditions persist due to below-average moisture this season. Even in cooler weather, dry vegetation can ignite quickly and spread rapidly. We urge residents and visitors to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:
- Avoid outdoor burning and check for local burn restrictions.
- Properly dispose of smoking materials—never discard them on the ground.
- Ensure trailer chains are secure to prevent sparks.
- Avoid parking on dry grass, as hot vehicle parts can ignite fires.
Together, we can prevent wildfires. Stay safe, stay aware, and always report smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.
