Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Receives Highway Safety Grant for Car Seat Safety Program for the Second Consecutive Year

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Highway Safety Grant for the second consecutive year. This grant will continue to increase CAFMA’s efforts in enhancing community safety through its child seat safety inspections and car seat assistance program.

GOHS has awarded CAFMA a $6,710.00 grant to support materials, supplies, and personnel services. These resources will play an important role in supporting the organization’s mission to educate parents and caregivers on the correct installation and use of child car seats.

CAFMA has a dedicated team of five certified car seat technicians providing personalized guidance to parents and caregivers, making sure they understand how to properly install and use car seats for their children.

“We are proud to receive this grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the second year,” said Darrell Tirpak, Fire Marshal at CAFMA. “This funding will help us to enhance our current initiatives focused on safeguarding the lives of our residents, particularly our most vulnerable population—our children.”

CAFMA has partnered with the Prescott Valley Police Department to host a free car seat safety check event on January 25, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Park Collective, located at 7450 E. Pav Way, Prescott Valley. During the event, participants can drive through and have their child’s car seat or booster seat thoroughly inspected by two certified car seat technicians. The technicians will verify proper installation and address any safety concerns. Each car seat check typically takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Families are encouraged to attend this free event for hands-on assistance from certified car seat technicians.

In addition to educational efforts, CAFMA will use the grant to offer a limited number of car seats to families in need. By increasing accessibility to these critical safety devices, CAFMA aims to reduce the number of preventable injuries and fatalities resulting from improper car seat usage.

For more information about CAFMA’s car seat assistance program or to schedule an appointment with a certified child passenger safety technician, please contact 928-772- 7711.
