La Tierra Community School will be hosting two information nights for parents of prospective kindergartners to visit its kinder cottage and meet the teachers on Thursday, January 30th and Tuesday, February 4th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at 124 N. Virginia Street in Prescott.
La Tierra offers free half-day kindergarten and an option to extend to a full day for a modest price. The school is known for combining a hands-on approach with an academic excellence that has earned it an ‘A’ rating from the Arizona Department of Education.
“Instead of sitting and memorizing, children learn best by doing and exploring and being filled with a sense of wonder,” said Director Julie Jongsma.
Specifically, teachers at La Tierra weave lessons in STEM, art and standard-based learning into theme-based expeditions. Expeditions start in Kindergarten and include frequent community trips for students.
“In kindergarten, there’s this absolute love and joy for school and learning,” said La Tierra kindergarten teacher Kat Hallowell. “And it’s the foundation for how they perceive the world of education.
