#1 Badgers Fly Over Eagles 84-61

Photo: Zane Gaul had a season high 33 points in the Badgers win over ALA-Queen Creek

Last week it was four seniors, this time it was three seniors that did all the scoring as the Prescott Badgers beat the American Leadership Academy Queen Creek Eagles 84-61 in the Badger Dome.

Uriah Tenette knocked down eight three point shots on his way to a game high 40 points. Center Zane Gaul rebounded nicely with a season high 33 points and 12 rebounds. Throw in Cooper Magnett with 11 and that was it for Prescott.

The game started off like it could be a good competitive contest between the two teams, as the Eagles came out to take an early lead. They held the lead as late as the final couple of minutes in the first quarter, but that was when Prescott took over, closing out the quarter on a 12-3 run.

Leading 27-20, the Badgers kicked into a higher gear and nearly doubled up the Eagles as the home team led 50-32 at the half. Another very good quarter as Gaul became even more dominant inside by scoring, blocking shots, and pulling down rebounds as the Badgers built a 75-48 lead at the end of the third quarter.

A three point basket by Gaul, one of four in the game pushed the lead to 30 points and a running clock ensued making quick work of the final quarter.

Prescott improved to (9-5) overall, while ALA-Queen Creek fell to (10-5). The Badgers will return to Grand Canyon Region action with a home game tonight versus Flagstaff at 7pm.

Today, the first AIA basketball rankings came out and the Badgers are sitting at #1 in the 4A Division, and #6 in the Open Division. Prescott is ahead of #2 Sahuaro and #3 Deer Valley. Other Grand Canyon Region teams are #12 Coconino, #20 Bradshaw Mountain, #34 Lee Williams,  #36 Mohave, #39 Flagstaff and #43 Mingus. The Open Division rankings has 6A Perry at number one, #2 Sunnyslope, #3 Sandra Day O’Connor, #4 Ironwood, and#5 Basha ahead of the Badgers.
