The Prescott Badgers returned home after a road trip split and beat the ALA-Gilbert North Eagles 62-37 in the Badger Dome.
The Eagles came out flying, knocking down three baskets for a 7-0 lead. The Badgers responded with four buckets and took an 8-7 lead. The teams then exchanged a pair of baskets before Prescott began to take control and build a nine point lead at the end of the first quarter.
Gilbert North continued to struggle and fall further behind thanks in part to a tenacious defensive effort by Prescott. Even when Zane Gaul came out early in the second quarter, the Badgers extended the lead. Cooper Magnett knocked down three straight baskets to extend the lead to 31-15.
Uriah Tenette scored 21 of his 25 points in the first half, reaching a personal milestone by scoring his 2000th career point, as the Badgers led 41-22 at the half.
Tenette said, “We got off to a slow start tonight but that didn’t last very long. I just want to say congratulations to Zane on reaching a thousand points. Reaching 2000 for me is a dream come true for me. I just go out every game and do all I can. Scoring the points is great but it is really about our team, getting better every game and our goal to win state.”

The second half was much of the same as Prescott won easily to improve to (3-1) on the season. Zane Gaul finished with 19 points, and reached the 1000th career point milestone the night before in the win at Arcadia said, “It’s good to get to that point but I am more focused on our team and our ability to play at the level we need to. Congratulations to Uriah, we have been playing together all four years and it is great to see him achieve these accomplishments.”
ALA-Gilbert North drops to (5-3). The Badgers will get a little break before playing in the Nike Tournament of Champions hosted by Red Mountain High School in Mesa, starting off with Rolling Hills from California on January 2 at 1:30pm.
Prescott will return home on January 7 to host Coconino in the opener of Grand Canyon Region play.
