The Prescott Badgers opened their season with a big 68-50 win over a top ten opponent in the St. Mary’s Knights.
The Badgers opened up 6-0 early behind baskets by Josiah Peoples and Uriah Tenette. Prescott led the entire first half till Caspain Jones sank a three point shot from the corner to end the half giving the Knights their first lead at 25-24.
The second half started off like a seesaw as the teams exchanged leads. After a technical foul on the Knights coach, Prescott went on a run to build a 39-29 lead. Zane Gaul was finally able to get a dunk down without being fouled early in the fourth to make it 50-36.

A couple of minutes later, Tenette got a nice feed along the baseline by Cooper Magnett and slammed it home for his first dunk of the season for a 57-45 lead. Magnet followed with a three of his own and two more buckets for a 64-48 Badger lead with just over a minute to play.
The Badgers were impressive at the free throw line making 22 of 24. Tenette said, “We knew this was going to be a tough game. This was a good win for us and against a top ten team. I had a slow first half but was able to get it going in the second half. Zane, Cooper, Coley, Josiah, and Sebashtyn all came through had big second half’s for us and we need that; swimming together just like fish. Always great to get a win at home and our crowd was into it.”
Uriah Tenette led all scorers with 31. Zane Gaul had 15, and Cooper Magnett with 14. Cameron Williams led St. Mary’s with 23.
Prescott (1-0) will travel to Deer Valley in a playoff rematch on Thursday at 7pm.
